Recycle Your Cooking Oil
Used cooking fats, oil and grease are a valuable commodity that can become a major nuisance if it is introduced into municipal wastewater. In most localities it is illegal for restaurants to dump or dispose of their used cooking oil in drains or sewers. San Francisco alone spends over $3.5 million a year to extract cooking oils from wastewater. Those fats, oils and grease are then much more difficult to refine into fuels due to contamination and excess water residue in the oil. Residential disposal of used cooking oil is coming under greater scrutiny, with regulatory actions pending.
Converting material that would otherwise present a strain on resources into valuable bio fuel is a double win for any community. Sirona Fuels offers free used cooking oil collection services throughout Northern California, the San Francisco Bay Area and provides grease trap waste collection for a reasonable fee. We also offer programs in which recycling used cooking oil with us can result in donations being made to local schools or in the businesses receiving direct payments from us.
Fact: Yellow grease typically comes from used cooking fat, oil and grease (FOG) from the fast-food industry. It is used to feed livestock, and to make soap, make-up, clothes, rubber, detergents, and bio-diesel fuel. Sirona processes our locally sourced Yellow Grease locally into Biodiesel. We think that using Yellow Grease for making Biofuels is better than feeding it to animals that we are going to eat.
